Freshly made rosemary and peppermint-infused hair oil with dried rose petals, ready for use on thinning hair

DIY Rosemary Hair Oil: Homemade Recipe for Hair Growth

Lately, many of us have been discussing haircare brands that are no longer meeting expectations. One major issue? The once popular Rosemary Mint Hair Oil. Some customers have experienced hair loss and scalp irritation since it partnered with a major corporation.

While the founder has reassured customers that the formula hasn’t changed, some women still feel unheard, especially when experiencing hair issues. I get it. When it comes to our hair and skin, we deserve more than reassurance—we need products we can trust completely.

Should Ekhambee Expand Into Hair Care?

Hearing all this made me wonder: Should I expand Ekhambee into hair care? I’ve always been committed to making clean and natural skincare products that are safe for sensitive skin, but now, I’m listening to you about what you need for your hair too. I’ve been making my own hair mist moisturizer and refresher for years, keeping it natural and simple. If I do share my haircare, you can trust that it’ll be the same Ekhambee promise—effective, natural, and safe.

In the meantime, I’ve got a recipe you can try at home using fresh ingredients. Whether you’re struggling with thinning hair or just want a little extra love for your scalp, this DIY hair oil is the perfect solution. It’s gentle, moisturizing, and you can make it with ingredients you already have in your kitchen!

DIY Rosemary Hair Oil Recipe for Hair Growth

Ingredients:

1/2 cup of olive oil (extra virgin for best results)
1/2 cup of avocado oil (a super hydrating choice)
3-4 sprigs of fresh or 1-1.5 tablespoons dried rosemary
2-3 tablespoons of fresh or dried mint leaves (optional)
Optional: 1-2 tablespoons of dried chamomile flowers, dried rose petals, lemon balm or other dried flowers for added benefits

1. Prepare the Herbs
If you’re using fresh herbs, be sure to wash and dry them thoroughly to avoid spoiling your oil. Using dried herbs will extend the shelf life of your infused oil, so that’s something to keep in mind if you’re making a larger batch.

I used lemon balm since I grow it in pots all year round. Lemon balm is a great addition to your hair care routine. It soothes the scalp, boosts shine, and promotes hair strength and growth. It also helps balance oil production for all scalp types.

2. Heat the Oil
In a small pot, combine the olive and avocado oils, and heat them gently on low. You don’t want to boil the oil—just get it warm enough to help release the nutrients from the herbs. Overheating the oil can diminish its effectiveness especially when using extra virgin olive oil. Consider using a pure olive oil that can handle heat a little better.

3. Infuse the Herbs
Add your rosemary sprigs to the warm oil, and toss in any additional herbs like mint, chamomile, or rose petals for an extra touch. Let it simmer on low for about 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Speed it Up with an Oil Infusion Machine
If you’ve got an oil infusion machine, even better! This device can extract all the good stuff from your herbs in much less time.

4. Strain and Bottle the Oil
Once the infusion is done, strain out the herbs using a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth. Transfer your finished oil to a clean glass or PET bottle with a dropper or pour spout. It makes application easier and keeps the oil fresh.

5. Store the Oil
Keep your infused hair oil in a cool, dark place. If you used dried herbs, it’ll last for up to six months. If fresh, aim to use it within 2-3 weeks for the best results.
